Gold

The riches of the glory of God; enduring capacity of the believer as over-comer; unchanging holiness; wisdom; glory; righteousness; prophetic in nature.

The colour gold in scripture is translated from the Hebrew word 'zahab' depicting gold as a precious metal or of brilliance and splendor.

The items in the Most Holy place within the Tabernacle and Temple were covered with gold, for example the ark of the covenant, the mercy seat and Cherubim.

"...you shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and out you shall overlay it, and shall make on it a molding of gold all around." (Exo 25:10-11)

Gold is associated with that which is Holy to God. "You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet: HOLINESS TO THE LORD.". (Exo 28:26)

Gold is also used to describe the precious nature of His Word and Law: "The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold". (Psalm 19:9-10)

Gold also refers to those who impart the wisdom and knowledge of God to others who are willing to learn.

"Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise rebuke to an obedient ear." (Proverbs 25:12)

In the tabernacle construction, we see that though the various items were made of wood, they were overlaid with gold. This is symbolic of corruptible human nature overlaid with gold which is incorruptible, thus making the believer acceptable to God.

Negative

Glorifying self when used as adornment or as idol worship.

"A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favour rather than silver and gold." (Prov 22:1)

"Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold" (Prov 8:10)

"How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver." (Prov 16:16)

(Lam. 4: 2;Ps. 19: 10, 119: 72; Rev. 3: 18, 21: 18. 21;1 Cor. 3: 12; Ex. 20: 23; Is. 40: 19; Job 22:25)
